What's the best way to get a couple of packages of books to Perth? I have a friend who is in a temporary teaching position over there who wants me to send a few of his reference books to him. I don't want to pay a lot to do this, since we are living on a pretty tight budget. Besides, will be back in a few months for a visit, and could probably just pack them in his suitcase when he returns to Perth after a short vacation. But he would prefer them now, so I have agreed to look into shipping them. Air freight is too expensive, way more than the books themselves are actually worth. I know the US Post Office has a book rate that's pretty cheap. Is there anything like this for shipping printed materials internationally? And do small personal packages like this have to go through customs, or is that just an easy form to fill out?
